Similarly, if an ultrasonic probe is used to induce vibration on the surface of a solid, shock elastic waves can also be excited inside the solid. Therefore, ultrasonic waves propagating in a solid can be understood as shock elastic waves with relatively weak energy and high frequency. They are essentially the same as shock elastic waves induced by hammering. However, due to differences in the excitation and receiving structures, there are still certain differences between ultrasonic waves and the shock elastic waves mentioned here, which are mainly reflected in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(1) Energy: The energy of shock elastic waves is much greater than that of ultrasonic waves;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(2) Frequency characteristics and wavelength of the vibration signal: Ultrasonic waves have a short wavelength, generally a few centimeters, while shock elastic waves generated by hammering have a wavelength of tens of centimeters or even longer. Therefore, ultrasonic waves have high resolution and are more sensitive to minor defects, but they decay quickly and the test range is limited. (3) Frequency characteristics of the received signal: While maintaining high sensitivity, the ultrasonic probe generally has poor frequency response characteristics (typical frequency response characteristics are shown in Figure 1-2-14, and there is almost no flat part in the test frequency domain. In other words, ultrasonic testing instruments are more difficult to analyze frequency and amplitude. Shock wave testing generally uses acceleration sensors. The frequency response curves of the sensors have a long flat part under various fixed methods, which is conducive to spectrum analysis and energy analysis. The following table shows the main similarities and differences between ultrasonic waves and shock waves. The main differences between ultrasonic waves and shock waves Frequency response Table 1.
